Who is Mrs. Bayer?

The Bayer Family
The Bayer Family

My name is Suzanne Bayer, and I am thrilled to be your child’s 3rd grade teacher this year.   I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and tell you a little bit more about my background and interests.

This is my 21st year of teaching and my eleventh year here in the Cheyenne Mountain School District.  I graduated from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa in May of 1994 with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Music.  I completed my Masters of Education degree in the area of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education/Special Education in 1998 from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities campus.  Taking classes in the area of teaching is a big passion of mine, so I will be a student forever!  I have taught many different grade levels and content areas including fourth grade, fifth grade, and many years with elementary age students who have special learning needs.  Every year has been exciting and memorable, as I have been lucky to teach such wonderful students.  I absolutely love Broadmoor Elementary because it is a place where I am surrounded by enthusiastic students, staff, and parents.  I have been married to my husband Brad for 17 years, and we have two boys; Carter (13) and Jordan (11).   I'm the youngest member of my family, with an older brother who lives in Maryland with his wife and two children.  My parents are retired and live in Woodland Park, CO.  I grew up here in Colorado Springs and moved to Wisconsin when I was a junior in high school.  My husband and I have been living in Colorado for the past 16 years.  When I am not teaching, I love to read, travel, hike, and spend time with my family and friends.   Being a mother of two boys usually keeps me quite busy when I am not at school.

In my classroom, I promote an atmosphere of safety, trust, and respect.  I work hard to build a sense of community among my students, and I emphasize the idea of teamwork.  Cooperation and collaboration are two things I highly value in my classroom, and as I work with my peers.  Great things can happen when we work together!  I know that Broadmoor Elementary School is a place where there is strong sense of community, and I am honored to be a part of it.
