General Information

Welcome to First Grade!

I am so excited to meet you and enjoy this year full of learning together! As you may know, this is my first year as part of the Broadmoor family. I moved from Thornton, Colorado, where I was teaching third grade in Adams 12 District. I am thrilled to be teaching first grade again! I am originally from Monument; I went to school in District 38.

This summer I had the joy of coaching soccer to 3 year olds in the Denver area through a non-profit organization.

Here are some things you should know about me:

  • In my free time, I enjoy country dancing! Yes, your student may learn some line dances throughout the school year. :)
  • I love being outside! I am a complete rock nerd. Since I am semi-new to the area, please let me know about any hikes that you love to do.
  • I LOVE reading and science! Reading is my favorite content to teach. My library is packed full of books!
  • I also enjoy painting and being crafty. We will get to do some fun art projects this year!
  • And I absolutely love teaching kids and learning from them!

Let's make this 2017-2018 school year the best!

Homework and Planners

Homework will be practicing what was learned in class, rather than new learning. A math packet will be sent home each Monday, and it will be due back to class on Friday. Please have students work on the Practice side of the worksheet. We will also send home one or two High Order Thinking Questions (H.O.T. ?) for each math topic. Students will note in planners what math was learned that day in class.

Spelling words will be written in the planners on Monday as well. Please practice these words with your student. A spelling test will be given most Fridays in class.

Please encourage your student to read every night! A book may be sent home from class for your student to read; please send it back to class the following day.

Students are expected to fill out their daily planners every day with the learnings of the day. Please check and sign your child's planner each night. Please check the planner pocket daily for any incomplete work from class to be finished at home.

All important information and student's weekly work will go home in Thursday Folders. These folders need to be returned back to class on Friday.
