Science Olympiad

REGISTRATION FORM FOR SCIENCE OLYMPIAD

Science Olympiad registration has closed.

 

 

 

Students will be notified of team placement the week of Sept. 11th.

Science Olympiad Event Summaries and Team Requirements:

1. Bottle Rocket: Participants will design, construct on site and test a rocket made from a 2-liter plastic pop bottle, which will remain aloft for a maximum period of time. Schools may enter up to two teams with up to two persons per team. Each team must bring to the event all materials required for construction.

 

2. Bridge Building: Given certain parameters of length, width, height, and material, each team is to design, build on site, and test the lightest bridge to carry a maximum standard load. Schools may enter up to two teams with up to two persons per team. Each team must bring to the event all materials required for construction.

 

3. Clay Boats: Students will construct a barge, using modeling clay that can support a cargo of the largest amount of cargo without getting it wet. Schools may enter up to three teams with up to two persons per team. Materials will be provided at the competition.

 

4. Egg Drop: Teams will construct on-site a package to protect an egg prior to the contest drop. Eggs will all be dropped from the same height. Students attempt to build the smallest egg protector that will allow the egg to survive the drop. Schools may enter up to three teams with up to two persons per team. Materials will be provided at the competition.

 

5. Experimental Design: Given a set of unknown objects, teams will design, conduct, analyze, and write-up and experiment. Schools may enter up to three teams with up to three persons per team. Students must bring pencils, rulers, and stopwatches.

 

6. Gunk: Teams will use chemicals to create a substance with the greatest bounce or stretch. Schools may enter up to three teams with up to three persons per team. Students must bring their prepared gunk charts.

 

7. Mystery Architecture: Teams will design and construct on site a specified structure that will hold a specified load. Schools may enter up to three teams with up to two persons per team.

 

8. Science Crime Busters: Teams will solve a crime scene using chemical analysis. Schools may enter up to three teams with up to two persons per team. Students must bring their Crime Busters Kits.

 

9. Surfing the Net: Students are asked to find information using the internet. Schools may enter up to three teams with one person per team.

 

10. Write it - Do it: A technical writing exercise in which a student will prepare a written description of a contraption and another student in a separate room will attempt to recreate the contraption using only the written description. Schools may enter up to three teams with up to two persons per team. Students must bring pencils.

The district elementary Science Olympiad Competition will be held at Cheyenne Mtn. Junior High School the morning of Sat., Nov. 11, 2017.
