Founded in 1956, Broadmoor Elementary is located in the shadows of Cheyenne Mountain, in the southwest part of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Cheyenne Mountain is the home to NORAD and the world-famous Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. The historic Broadmoor Hotel is also nearby.
The Broadmoor staff believes that a student's social / emotional well - being is just as important as academic needs.  Broadmoor Elementary is committed to building a strong sense of inclusive community that involves the students, parents, and staff.  It is our vision that our school be a learning community where high social and academic standards are expected and met. Students and staff are focused on our school slogan - "Every day I am Respectful, Responsible, Prepared, Proud and Kind".

An essential component of school crisis response is the reunification of students with their parents or primary caregivers. This process is especially important for younger children.  The sooner students are reunited with their parents or guardians, the less likely they are to exhibit traumatic stress. In addition, schools must be accountable for maintaining the chain of custody for every student during and after a crisis. A predetermined and practiced reunification process helps to ensure that reunification will not add to anxiety and trauma in the event of a crises crisis.

Planning for reunification requires careful and thoughtful consideration of a number of factors.  The Cheyenne Mountain School District has developed and practices a comprehensive reunification process which is illustrated in a video created by students at Cheyenne Mountain High School.  We encourage all parents to review the video below in order to be fully prepared and informed in the unlikely event that we have to implement a large-scale reunification at any of our Cheyenne Mountain Schools.

Broadmoor Elementary is a Responsive Classroom school.  Due to the wonderful parent and community support of our Fun Fit Bears fundraiser, several teachers have been trained in Responsive Classroom, and the remaining teachers will attend training in the summer of 2015.  Responsive Classroom is not a program or curriculum, but rather an approach to teaching that ensures that our classrooms are joyful, safe learning communities where students feel comfortable taking risks.  Our positive school culture is a reflection of these practices and a caring staff that values every child.
