Founded in 1956, Broadmoor Elementary is located in the shadows of Cheyenne Mountain, in the southwest part of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Cheyenne Mountain is the home to NORAD and the world-famous Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. The historic Broadmoor Hotel is also nearby.

The Broadmoor staff believes that a student's social / emotional well - being is just as important as academic needs.  Broadmoor Elementary is committed to building a strong sense of inclusive community that involves the students, parents, and staff.  It is our vision that our school be a learning community where high social and academic standards are expected and met. Students and staff are focused on our school slogan - "Every day I am Respectful, Responsible, Prepared, Proud and Kind".

District policy requires permission to bring animals onto school grounds or into a district facility. Below is the district policy:

Animals in Schools and District Facilities Animals may be on school or District premises in connection with an organized and approved school or District activity approved by the site administrator. Animals are allowed to be housed in a classroom or District facility for a specific and appropriate educational purpose for the time necessary to achieve the educational goal. Students and parents may not bring animals onto school or District premises unless authorized by the site administrator.

Over the last four years, I have attempted to balance my desire to promote the community school culture we value at Broadmoor and enforcement of this policy. I have asked parents to keep their dogs at home without requiring this. I’m afraid the number of dogs on school grounds has gotten out of hand, I am requiring that all dogs that are not certified support animals stay home when you are dropping off or picking up students from school. In addition to students that may be fearful of animals and allergies, the potential for a student being injured by a dog reacting to the commotion during these very busy times of day, or another dog, is too great. Thank you for understanding.
